Interview Failures - Reasons

         Why People Fail in Interviews?

Often candidates complain that, despite performing well in the interviews, they are not selected. There could be many reasons. But following are some of the foremost reasons.

  • Lack of Preparation:  Of all the reasons, this is the foremost one. One needs to be prepared 100% to face the interviews. It includes inappropriate dress code, failure to understand the industry, casualness etc.

  • Lack of Subject Knowledge:  While appearing for an interview, one needs to be fully prepared.  He/she should be aware of the company and do homework.

  • Lack of skills:  I am sure most of you would have read reports published by NASSCOM, HR experts & corporate professionals that more than 70% of the candidates lack in employability skills. A good qualification alone is not sufficient, but host of other skills such as communication, interpersonal skills, analytical ability, personality etc., are also vital. Unfortunately most of the candidates realize this very late.

  • No proper focus:  Companies do not have a criteria which restricts candidates with qualification. Any body with a valid degree can apply.  While presenting he/she has to mention their interest towards the job.

  • Lack of Confidence:  When the candidate uses too many negative words such as, ‘I am not sure’, ‘May be I can’, etc., it does portray lack of confidence. The negative gestures or the body language plays spoilsport for the selection. Use positive expressions such as, ‘I am sure’, ‘I can’, ‘I would’ etc.,
